Chocolate Coconut Candied Apples

These chocolate dipped candied apples are made using dark chocolate and orange shredded coconut.

Ingredients:

  • Recipe for 2 candied apples. You can double or even triple this recipe.
  • 2 popcicle sticks (I used the ones that come with the candied apple kits)
  • 2 Gala apples
  • 1 12 oz bag of mildly sweet dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • Orange or red & yellow food coloring

Preparation:

  • Pour coconut in to a small bowl
  • Add approx 10 drops of orange food coloring or 8 drops of red and 6 drops of yellow on to top of coconut in bowl
  • Mix with a spoon until well coated
  • Set aside
  • In a small pot add 10 ounces of chocolate chips
  • Using your lowest heat setting, melt chocolate stirring constantly
  • Pour melted chocolate in to a small bowl
  • Remove stems from apples and insert popcicle sticks in to stem hole
  • Holding the stick, set your apple in to the bowl of melted chocolate
  • Using a spoon, cover apple with chocolate
  • Wearing a plastic glove or sandwich baggy over your hand, begin to pat coconut on to the apple
  • When apples are covered, place them on a plate covered with aluminum foil and refridgerate for at least an hour before eating
